Jaw and bite checks
A look at how your jaw opens and closes and how your teeth meet, so we know whether an appliance is likely to sit comfortably, or why your jaw is sore.
Services
What happens
Usually one visit, and a second to talk through what we found.
- 01
Step 1: We ask about your jaw
Soreness, clicking, headaches on waking, and whether anything has changed.
- 02
Step 2: We watch and feel it move
We watch your jaw open and close and feel the muscles around it, gently.
- 03
Step 3: We check your teeth and bite
Wear, cracks, and how your upper and lower teeth meet.
- 04
Step 4: We tell you what we found
A dental fix, a night guard, or a different kind of care, with a name when it's outside dentistry.
Services
Before you decide
Comfort
We press gently and stop if it hurts. Nothing is numbed.
Alternatives and waiting
Some jaw soreness settles by itself and some doesn't. Waiting is a choice, and we tell you which signs mean it's time to come in.
Risks and after-care
There's little risk. If a night guard or an adjustment follows, we explain its risks first.
How it's billed
A jaw check is billed as a dental visit, and some plans treat it as a medical one. You get a written estimate before any work starts, and we never quote a price over the phone.
How fees workWho provides it
Care here is provided by a general dentist: Dr. Beverly Bellamy or Dr. Tatiana Lozano. Each one's license is listed in the footer.
Meet the dentistsWhat it isn't
Jaw pain has many causes. We tell you what we see, and when the cause may be outside dentistry we say who to see.
Questions about jaw checks
Do you treat TMJ problems?
We check your jaw and tell you what we see. If the answer is a dental one, such as a night guard, we offer it. If not, we suggest who to see.
Why check my jaw before an appliance?
An oral appliance moves your jaw forward, so we want to know how your jaw and teeth are doing first.
Do I need X-rays?
Only when they answer a question we have. We say why before we take one.
