Sleep screening
A dental visit to look at what a dentist can see of a sleep problem, and to decide whether to write to your physician. It is not a sleep test and it is not a diagnosis.
Services
What happens
Usually one visit of about an hour.
- 01
Step 1: We ask
How you sleep, whether you snore or wake with a dry mouth, how tired you are in the day, and what your physician has already told you.
- 02
Step 2: We look
Your mouth, jaw, tongue and bite, and how your teeth have worn. Sometimes a scan or photos help.
- 03
Step 3: We tell you what we saw
In plain words, with no diagnosis. We say what's worth raising with a physician and what isn't.
- 04
Step 4: We write to your physician
With your permission, a short note to your physician or to one we suggest, so a sleep test can be ordered by someone who can order it.
Services
Before you decide
Comfort
Nothing is numbed and nothing is cut. If a scan or the jaw check is uncomfortable, say so and we stop.
Alternatives and waiting
You can go straight to your physician and ask for a sleep test without seeing us. A screening is a way to start, not a deadline.
Risks and after-care
There's little risk. If we take X-rays or a 3D scan we take only what answers the question. You leave with our notes, and no after-care.
How it's billed
A screening is billed as a dental visit or a medical one, depending on your plan. You get a written estimate before any work starts, and we never quote a price over the phone.
How fees workWho provides it
Care here is provided by a general dentist: Dr. Beverly Bellamy or Dr. Tatiana Lozano. Each one's license is listed in the footer.
Meet the dentistsWhat it isn't
A screening doesn't diagnose sleep apnea, and we don't start treatment for anyone without a physician's diagnosis.
Questions about screening
Is this a sleep test?
No. A sleep test is ordered and read by a physician, and it's done at home or in a lab. A screening is a dental visit.
Do I need to bring anything?
Bring a list of what you take, and any sleep test report or physician's note you already have.
What if you think I should see a physician?
We tell you why and write to your physician with your permission. We don't suggest what the diagnosis might be.
